The Bythams Spinney was originally founded in 2003 and was established as a natural playspace amongst woodland. It was well used and loved by all ages. Approaching its 20thanniversary, the Spinney was due a much needed upgrade and renovation. The original equipment was in need of replacement and some additional items were required to add to the already fantastic play value the site offered.

THE BRIEF
New woodland play equipment
Playscape Playgrounds were commissioned to replace the existing equipment as well as provide new, updated kit. The brief was fairly simple ‘natural and aesthetically pleasing, providing a safe play environment that blends into the background’. Playscape have managed to achieve the brief by utilising a variety of materials including steel reinforced rope, galvanised steel, hardwood Robinia timber, resin bound rubber mulch and recycled plastic decking.
THE DESIGN
Wooden playground shelters and trim trails nestled among the trees
Commencing in the early winter of 2023 and battling the ever constant wet weather, we were pushed on this project by the conditions and terrain and it took us longer than we had hoped for but the end result was well received and is proving ever popular. Utilising hardwearing materials, the new play area should be built to last and provide endless seasons of fun and enjoyment for all.
THE RESULTS
Natural materials helped blend the play area into the surrounding woodland
