Playground Design for Schools

Playscape can design a playground specifically for your school’s children and within your budget.

We understand what a big decision and investment is required when considering a new school playground. It’s a project with many stakeholders on both a financial and community level, and it takes time and communication to balance everyone’s priorities while keeping to a budget.

01

Consultation

Our design process begins with an initial phone discussion followed by
a free no-obligation site visit, so we can fully  understand the space  and your requirements for the project.

03

Quote

From there we’ll put a bespoke quote together to ensure we can offer a service that fulfils your school’s needs at the right price point.

02

Design

Our next steps are to bring our initial discussions to life with 3D designs that can consolidate different ideas from you, the children, staff and parents into a project blueprint.

Installation

With a finely tuned process, nationally recognised safety qualifications and carefully selected staff, we will install your bespoke playground safely and efficiently.

We have had plenty of practice at getting playgrounds installed within tight deadlines, tight budgets, adverse weather conditions and every other possible obstacle that has popped up and surprised us over the years.

All installations are carried out by enhanced DBS-checked staff members and completed to BS EN1176 and BS EN1177 standards. You can also opt for an RPII-approved post-installation inspection and certification by our team.

School Playground Equipment

We have a wide range of high-quality outdoor playground equipment for all kinds of learning through play. All of our playground equipment is certified to the European Standard EN1176 (equipment, BSEN1177 = surfacing).

Below are some examples of our most popular school playground equipment that we are frequently asked to install, but our design team can have a chat with you about your school’s requirements and guide you on what equipment is best suited to your space and your pupils’ needs.

Inclusive play in schools

Play is not just a leisure activity; it’s a vital component in a child’s development, helping them to develop motor skills, foster creativity, build confidence and learn vital social skills. It is therefore incredibly important that every pupil can safely enjoy their school playground.

A well-designed playground should enable and encourage children, of all physical and cognitive abilities, to play and learn together. With our dedicated design team and range of inclusive play equipment, we can create a space that’s not only accessible but also inviting and engaging for all your school’s pupils.

Recent work

We design, install and maintain playgrounds for schools across the UK. Here are a few examples of recent KS1 and KS2 playgrounds we’ve worked on.

Ongoing Inspections & Maintenance

Once your new school playground has been installed, it is essential to take good care of it by ensuring that appropriate inspections and maintenance are scheduled, implemented and recorded.

School playgrounds need an annual inspection, carried out by an RPII Certified (Register of Play Inspectors International) Annual Inspector, as well as regular operational inspections throughout the year.

Playscape is RPII-certified to carry out operational outdoor playground inspections. Our operational inspectors are fully trained in repairs and maintenance, meaning that minor issues can be resolved during inspections. We follow up each inspection with a report, which shares any suggested next steps and serves as evidence that you are taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of your playground.

We can repair or replace any broken play equipment or damaged surfacing too.

FAQs

How often should my school playground be inspected/maintained?

All playgrounds should have a minimum of an annual inspection, carried out by an RPII Certified Annual Inspector. In addition, regular operational inspections should also be scheduled – these may be needed monthly or quarterly depending on local conditions, the manufacturers’ guidance, footfall, and other factors. Get in touch with the Playscape team and we can advise how often operational inspections should be carried out for your specific playground.
