Playground Surfacing
Grassmats
It’s important to ensure that all play areas containing pieces of play equipment where climbing is involved have some form of ‘soft landing zone’ in place. Playscape playgrounds offers a variety of surfacing solutions and can advise you in relation to your school’s individual needs.
What Are Grassmats?
Grassmats enable an area to keep the traditional surface of natural grass (which grows through the grassmat) whilst providing a safety surface for play equipment. Grassmats are impact absorbing and are manufactured out of durable rubber.Applications
Ideal for grass play areas and other high traffic zones where injuries and accidents may occur. Grassmats allow grass to grow through and can be mown straight over meaning the aesthetic look of your playground won’t be affected. They are hard- wearing and designed for use in heavy footfall traffic areas and are ideal for schools, public parks and other public areas where you wish to retain natural grass as a feature of the area.Safety
Grassmats provide a safety surface to play equipment or other structures with a Critical Fall Height (CFH) of up to 2.25 metres All installations of grassmats as a safety surface are compliant with BS EN1177 standards.Installation
Grassmats are laid directly on top of existing grass, turf or soil. When laid onto soil, the area will be grass seeded and watered to encourage and accelerate grass growth. Additional options would be additional topsoil or laid turf. Artificial grass is laid and cut to shape on-site by full qualified, enhanced DBS checked installation teams.Focus Points:
- Allows the retention of natural grass whist providing a safety surface
- Natural appearance once grass has grown around and amongst the grassmats
- Low maintenance – mowers will pass directly over the Grassmats without causing damage
- Extends the possibility of an area being usable all-year-round
- Durable and long-lasting
- Provides safety for any accidental slips or falls from equipment
