What is Bonded Rubber Mulch?

Bonded Rubber Mulch playground surfacing is a more cost-effective method of creating colourful and imaginative designs on your playground surface compared to EPDM Rubber Wetpour but without sacrificing on quality or safety. Bonded Rubber Mulch is made up of recycled rubber which creates an impact absorbing safety surface that is often described as resembling woodchip. Multiple colours can be used separately in an area creating attractive effects and even incorporating logo’s, patterns & shapes. However in addition, multiple colours of Bonded Rubber Mulch can be mixed together to form a single multi-colour finish.

Bonded Rubber Mulch is a hard-wearing surface designed for use in heavy footfall traffic areas and is ideal for schools, public parks and other public areas.

Safety

Single or multi-coloured play surfaces are often specified for visual effect; however Bonded Rubber Mulch is primarily a safety surface that has been designed to minimise the risks of injury as a result of a fall from play equipment. Bonded Rubber Mulch is an impact attenuating surface, offering cushioning on impact, resistance to abrasion, slipping and ignition. Bonded Rubber Mulch can be laid in varying thicknesses dependant on the Critical Fall Height (CFH) of the apparatus, this ranges from 20mm thickness (applicable to 0.7m critical fall height) to 130mm thickness (applicable to 3.0m critical fall height). All installations of Bonded Rubber Mulch as a safety surface are compliant with BS EN1177 standards.

Installation

Bonded Rubber Mulch can be laid directly onto grass, soil, tarmac, concrete and even on top of previously installed safety surfaces (condition dependant) without the need for costly groundworks or an engineered sub-base, however if preferred, Bonded Rubber Mulch can be laid onto an engineered MOT sub-base to achieve premium results. Bonded Rubber Mulch is mixed and laid on-site by full qualified, enhanced DBS checked installation teams.
