New inclusive playground at Chiltern Primary School, Northampton

THE BRIEF

Explore, play and learn in new inclusive play area

We were asked to create a playground with a ‘park’ feel to create an environment where children can explore, play, and learn safely.

THE DESIGN

Playground that feels like a trip to the local park

The area is enclosed with new metal park-style fencing and has plenty of free space to run. We visualised a playground that felt like you were taking a trip to the local park. We used soft rubber chip safety surfacing to represent Tarmac pathways, facilitating a journey around the different play equipment on coloured pads or zones.

A row of three inclusive basket swings are situated on three rectangles of coloured playground surfacing in one corner.

A play tower that gives an adventure play feel to the park is sited in another corner and the boundary fence is adorned by lots of sensory play equipment.

We installed some sunken, inclusive trampolines into three locations and some metal spinning seats.

THE RESULTS

Filled with sensory and inclusive play equipment

Chiltern Primary School are delighted with their finished, enclosed, play area. Filled with sensory and inclusive play equipment this unique play park ensures all the children get to play and have fun in the fresh air. It has just the right balance of structure, space and engaging equipment to make it a space that will delight the children for many years to come.
