Race Report - Round 5

WOW!!! New International Lap Record 31.894 set by Luis Ikonen
HISTORY IN THE MAKING... Well done!!!

CADETS

Round 5 saw the Academy return to the International Track of 600 metres—but they were going the right way round this time!!!!!

No doubt this suited Luis better as a NEW Lap record was set on the 6th Lap of the Cadet Final!   Wow indeed…..

There was some exciting racing during the Cadets B Final with Jacob Leferve on pole—with all thumbs up off they go for their 4 laps.   Jacob Leferve lead Rob Staines into Parabolica with Tyler Dougan in 3rd place.   There was some skirmishing at the back with 3 drivers side by side going in to Howler Hairpin — I don’t think they will all fit!!!!...........

Ryan Rrapo moves into 4th position having a great start — just one more place to make it to the A Final.   The top three drivers will make it to the A Final.   Luis Ikonen flying trying to get up the order………….   On the final lap Jacob Leferve leads by 1 sec past the chequered flag with Rob Staines in 2nd and Luis Ikonen now in 3rd position.

The Cadet A Final saw Harry Hardy in pole position with 9 other drivers …… but Harry does not have it his way as going into Parabolica for the first time Rasaan Malcolm-Moore snatches the lead!   Reece Yusuf takes the final trophy place.   Drivers two abreast  -  no easy manoeuvre as they go through Lowes Hairpin—some excellent driving from all Cadets.

Down the back straight to the Parabolic Rasaan Malclm-Moore finds himself out on his own with all other drivers struggling to play catch up  -  it seems Harry Hardy is backing everyone up!!!

Reece Yusuf battling runs out of track room and loses a couple of positions dropping to 5th place.   Going into Lowes Hairpin the difference between 1st and 2nd is 3.5 secs.   Harry Hardy loses his 2nd place to Dan Brewer with Sipho Manzi trying to make a move on the inside at Casino  -  not really made for overtaking!!!....

Now in 2nd place Dan Brewer pulls away from Harry Hardy with Reece Yusuf coming back up the field and looking to make a move at Bush Wash on Harry Hardy, who is desperately holding on to is 3rd position as they approach halfway through the Final.

With 4 more laps to go  Luis Ikonen puts in the fastest lap so far just 1/10th of a second off lap record on 32.129, sitting in 7th place.

Lap 5 sees Rasaan Malcolm-Moore leading from Dan Brewer;  with Reece Yusuf managing to take Harry Hardy for the coveted 3rd and final trophy position.

Harry Hardy uncomfortably in 4th place has Imran Qadri sitting on his rear bumper looking for a way round—good job they have no mirrors—it could be quite frightening!!!.....

A history making lap 6 sees Luis Ikonen set a NEW fastest Lap Record for the International 600 metre track of 31.894—WOW indeed.   With Rasaan-Malcolm-Moore now leading by 3 secs.   Jacobe Lefevre has now moved into 4th place

As we go past the chequered flag Rasaan Malcolm-Moore comfortably wins with Dan Brewer and Reece Yusuf in 2nd and 3rd respectively.    Well done to you all—but especially to Luis Ikonen for setting a new lap record………...

At just half way through the Championship Reece Yusuf leeds Harry Hardy by just 7 points  -  I hope neither are having a holiday to miss a round it could be crucial to the end result!!!      And what about Luis Ikonen in 4th place with only 5 points separating 3rd, 4th and 5th place drivers!

JUNIORS

The juniors line up for their B Final with Andrew Knight taking pole position on the grid and Andy Rrapo in 2nd place.

The lights go green and the race is on for the drivers to go forward to the A Final………

Jonas Moore makes a cracking start to take 2nd place but Andrew Knight keeps on to his 1st position.   Andy Rrapo still in a qualifying position but down to 3rd place.

Up towards Bush Wash for the first time no change in the front order but there is a little bit of contact from the back drivers.

With just two laps to go Andy Rrapo comes under pressure from Bradley Martin-Pitt who is very quick through the chicane;  Andy Rrapo catching Jonas Moore in 2nd place.

Out of Casino for the last time Andrew Knight has shown a very smooth drive keeping clear of any trouble and easily takes the chequered flag by 2.2 secs.   Jonas Moore secures 2nd position with Andy Rrapo in 3rd spot to ensure places in the A Final.

With everyone happy on the start line for the A Final  -  visors down  -  tyres warm  -  thumbs up  -  tension rises for the Fifth Round of the Playscape Academy Junior Final! ……………….with 8 laps to go …………………….

At halfway stage with 4 laps to go the field is close together and Prajesh Shah has a look at trying to take the position away from Wole Belo for 5th place.

George Skitini has now pulled a gap of 3.6secs with a lovely clear track ahead of him!  Making a breakaway from the start.   With Lee Massey and Luke Reade in 2nd and 3rd positions…

The racing hots up in the middle order with Kieren Golding closing the gap on Luke Reade and at Lowes Hairpin is right on his rear bumper going towards Parabolica the action gets hotter!......

Into Howler Hairpin and into Casualty Luke Reade is really feeling the pressure and breathing down his neck is Kieren Golding looking up the inside….. Waiting for a better opportunity doesn’t want to throw it all away at this stage…….

On the final lap George Skitini is leading with Lee Massey in 2nd place with 3rd and 4th still battling between Luke Reade and Kieron Golding will he try it through Casualty?......Bus Wash?..........when will he pounce? …..

George Skitini takes the chequered flag with Lee Massey in 2nd place and Kieron Golding unlucky as Luke Reade takes the final trophy position just ahead……………    an exciting bit of action mid field and good driving by all makes for spectacular viewing…….. Thanks everyone!!!

George Skitini is not having it all his own way and leads the Championship with just 22 points!   Andy Rrapo has 205 points with Kieren Golding in 3rd place with 4th, 5th and 6th places separated by just 8 points!
