Introduction

The Playscape Academy has been set up for drivers under the age of 16 to start them on the road to success in real racing karts in a professional and safe environment.

No licence is required, and Playscape will supply all equipment, including equal karts, crash helmets, gloves and race suits for all competitors. All that is required is for you to book your place into the Playscape Tuition (all ages) or the Championship (8 to 16 years) then simply Arrive & Drive.
 
Many current Formula One drivers started their racing careers at an early age in karts, including Brits Anthony Davidson, David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, who was a Playscape sponsored driver in his early Karting Career, as shown in the picture.  

Karts:

  • Bambino: Biz Chassis, Honda GX120 4.5bhp engines
  • Cadet: Stratos Chassis, Honda GX160 6.5bhp engines
  • Junior: Biz Chassis, Honda GX160 5.5bhp engines
  • Top speeds approaching 45 mph

Bambino Tuition - 6 to 8 years

Following the success of the Bambino Circuit for children aged 6 to 8 years, which until now, has played host to Birthday Parties and Arrive & Drive sessions.

From January 2010, Playscape Academy is launching Bambino Tuition to bring children aged 6 to 8 years to Academy level.

Bambino Tuition will provide all safety equipment, a thorough Briefing and a Pace Kart to lead the drivers initially on to the full-size circuit. Qualified Instructors will provide structured tuition and in-kart practice.  Whilst learning the skills of racing on the National (400 metre) circuit, each driver will receive a certificate and a trophy awarded to the driver who records the fastest lap.

Bambino Tuition will take the format of 20 children, divided into 4 groups of 5 children and will take place on the second Sunday of each month from 09.00hrs to 10.30hrs (9.00am to 10.30am).

The younger a driver starts, the better the driving!  Look at the success of British drivers in F1 – who began their racing careers in Karts! 

Tuition - 8 to 16 years

Playscape Tuition operates in addition to the already successful Championship Academy from 6.00pm till 8.00pm.

Playscape Tuition will encourage young drivers, through race training, to reach and maintain their full potential. Whether you are just starting out or already an experienced karter, we will improve your driving technique with our qualified instructors in an educational, safe and fun environment.  

Membership

Membership is only required for the Academy Championship.

Members must be able to lap our 400 metre circuit in a time below 29 second to gain membership. You can apply for membership by contacting  series co-ordinator Enver Meyer on 020 8677 8677.

Rules & Regulations

Championship - 8 to 16 years

The Academy Championship operates on the first Saturday of each month and has been running for many years, producing Formula GP”2 front runner Sam Bird, World Karting Champion Colin Brown, World Easykart Champion Barnaby Pittingale, and British Touring Car race winner Gareth Howell, to name but a few drivers, who have progressed to greater heights from our events.

Each round will include a safety briefing, a practice session, qualification heats and finals and is split into two categories:- Cadets aged 8-12 and Juniors aged 12-16 years old-subject to height and weight restrictions.

Both championships are held over 10 rounds with your 8 highest scores counting towards your final championship position. An Awards Presentation will be held at the end of the year.
